The history of the stud Kastanienhof was started in 1968 by Herold and Renate Coldewey. That year they started breeding high quality German Riding Ponies from Weser-Ems, leading to the stud now being known worldwide for their ponies.
In 2001 we – Julia & Timo Coldewey – started to run our training stable. Julia (a certified professional rider) also comes from a family of horse lovers and all family members have been competing successfully in dressage and show jumping. Growing up in her family’s own riding school in Jever, the training from scratch of new young talents has always been one of Jule’s main tasks.
As a result we do not only promote our own stud’s stallions and sale horses, but also horses and ponies owned by our clients from within Germany and well as all over the world. From lunging and preparation for stallion approvals („Körungsvorbereitung“) through starting them under saddle all the way to professional presentation in hand at performance tests, shows under saddle or other events such as auctions or breeding displays, we offer the complete range of services for the promotion of youngsters and highly trained competitors. Longstanding content customers from all over the world testify for our operation giving us great feedback and enforce our belief in our gentle and well grounded working approach.
It is with great pride and delight that our own children now form the third generation of horse-professionals, there is nothing more rewarding for us than seeing that our little ones share the same enthusiasm for the business we find so fulfilling.
By now we count over 100 approved stallions to our name. Many of them were bred by our family, others are or were stationed with us for preparation and presentation on behalf of clients. We have also had a large number of ponies who were either brought up and/or trained here excell in all disciplines and at all levels both domestic and internationally. At all times our focus at stud Kastanienhof has been on producing child-friendly ponies with outstanding willingness to perform. The base of our work in the breeding and the sport are targeted matings, optimal upbringing and a careful and ethically correct training. Our long list of results over the years proves that we must be doing something right.
Our facilities offer modern, spacious stables adjacent to our stone indoor arena which was built in 2000. Quality forage, mostly from our own crop and well maintained surrounding pastures are the foundation of our feeding regime. Ponies requirements are individually assessed and we feed quality concentrates and supplements in order to meet the needs of every horse and pony. Proper nutrition is a big factor that contributes to our charges’ excellent results and appearance when shown in public and competition.
